Uses of Saved Rain Water
If you are considering buying a rain water barrel you may wonder how you will use all the water you save. The fact is, there are more uses for saved rain water than one might think. From outside your home to inside your home saved rain water can save you a lot of money.

Make your Garden Grow
The first place you can start using the water you collect in your rain water barrel is your garden. You can water plants, trees, shrubbery and herbs. In fact, rain water is what is best for these things because it is what is natural. Tap water has minerals and chemicals that can be harmful or inhibit the growth of your plant life. You can also water your lawn with your collected rain water. A rain barrel can even be hooked to a sprinkler.

Outdoor Clean-ups
When you really sit down to think about it, you use your hose for more than you think outside. You can hook a hose up to your rain water barrels, so anything you can clean with your hose you can clean with you saved rain water. That means the next time you want to clean your car or clean the exterior of your home you don't have to worry about your water bill. You can even shine up the windows or hose down your driveway without a care in the world.

Indoor Greens
You can easily use some of the rain water you collected outside, inside your home. Fill up a watering can and water your potted plants inside. That means flowers in vases, hanging plants and windowsill herbs too.

Indoor Clean-ups
The rain water that you have collected can easily be used inside your home to clean. That said, it is important to note that rain water should not be used for bathing or cooking. Rain water, even when filtered is not sterile enough for those purposes. However, you can use rain water along with eco-friendly cleaners to clean a variety of things. Floors, tubs, sinks, windows and walls can all be washed with rain water.

It is important to remember that you shouldn't use rain water for washing clothes, bathing or cooking. However, once you eliminate those things the possibilities for rain water use seem endless. As long as you remember to keep your rain barrels functional and clean, your rain barrels can replace your outdoor spigot almost entirely.
